FOUR LOCALS CAST AS FOUR SEASONS

Musical Theatre Dunedin has announced its cast for their upcoming season of Jersey Boys with four local men securing the coveted Four Seasons roles of Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Nick Massi and Tommy DeVito.

Max Beal is tasked with recreating the vocal authenticity of Frankie Valli, a role he is full of intimidated excitement to attack. “Frankie had a sound unlike anyone else of his generation so to recreate it is going to be a challenge but one I’m looking forward to”, he said.

Beals was last seen onstage in Rock Tenors as well as the 2021 season of Les Miserables and as Mickey in Blood Brothers, a role that earned him an OSTA for best male lead in a musical. He will repeat the role of Frankie Valli for Invercargill Musical Theatre’s July season.

The other Four Seasons are Greg MacLeod (Rock Tenors, Les Miserables, WICKED & Prisicilla) as band leader Tommy Devito, Ben Thomas (Les Miserables, Grease Arena Spectacular) as composer Bob Gaudio and Justin Wilson (Rock Tenors, Les Miserables) as vocal arranger Nick Massi.

Beal, MacLeod, Thomas and Wilson will be supported by 13 company members including Peter Hocking as writer and producer Bob Crewe, Charlotte McKay as Mary Mandel, Valli’s first wife and Sophie Whibley as Valli’s daughter Francine.

Direction and choreography are under the guidance of Stephen Robertson who was responsible for last year’s sell-out production of Les Miserables. A 10-piece live band will provide musical support lead by musical director Stuart Walker.

Renowned globally as one of the finest scripts written for a jukebox musical, the show takes a biographical look at the rise, the tough times and personal clashes of the Four Seasons, and the ultimate triumph of a group of friends whose music became symbolic of a generation.

It features hits including Beggin’, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Oh What a Night, Sherry, Walk Like a Man, Bye Bye Baby, Big Girls Don’t Cry and many more.

Jersey Boys will open on 4 May 2022 at the Regent Theatre Dunedin for a strictly limited season.
